Rap star and father of two A$AP Rocky said he knew that Rihanna had fallen in love with him many years before they started dating.

The entertainment power couple began dating in 2019 just prior to the onset of the pandemic. But he said they made a powerful connection back in 2012.

Rocky said the chemistry was strong when the two were filming a video at the Mercer Hotel in New York more than a decade ago.

A$AP Rocky describes the 1st time they got to work with each other

“This is very special because this is the first place she fell in love with me,” Rocky told W Magazine. “Virgil Abloh shot the music video for ‘Fashion Killa’ in 2012, and that was the same couch where Rihanna and I sat in the first scene.”

The two — who were amorously infatuated with one another — kept smiling and laughing with one another while shopping at multiple stores together that day.

Rocky, who was born Rakim Athelaston Mayers in Harlem, is now the father of two children with Rihanna: RZA and Riot. But he knew long before they began officially dating that she was going to be the mother of his kids.

“I knew from when we were younger,” Rocky admitted. “We both did, I think. So it was only right when we got older. We just kind of reconnected.”

Rihanna said she and A$AP Rocky watched each other for years

The owner of Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty said earlier this year that she and Rocky were able to observe one another from afar and became acquainted with each other’s strengths and weaknesses — from a safe distance.

“I’ve seen him in relationships. He’s seen me in relationships,” Rihanna told Interview magazine in April 2024. We’ve seen each other outside of relationships. We knew what we’re capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other’s lives. We can make or break each other’s hearts. And so, we started dating with a lot of caution.”

The “We Found Love” singer said their relationship was tantamount to a rose that required careful nurturing in order to blossom.

“I just let whatever was supposed to happen, happen,” she explained. “It’s either going to die or blossom. But I’m going to let it decide itself.'”
