Her journey from law school graduate to industry pioneer exemplifies the transformative power of belief and perseverance in the face of challenges. King’s story not only highlights her personal triumph but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly women of color, in the rapidly evolving field of sustainable technology.
This is her speech:
Good evening, everyone. You all do look beautiful this evening. All this melanin in this room is just gorgeous. I want to thank you. I see so many powerful, beautiful Black women in this room. Give yourselves a round of applause. I want to thank Rolling Out, my dear friend Munson Steed, and the Steed Society for this honor. It is my pleasure and privilege to accept this award. I am the CEO of Dunamis Charge and Dunamis Clean Energy Partners. Dunamis Charge is the first Black woman-owned EV charger manufacturer in this world. And we are located right here in the city of Detroit.
And we are using clean energy technology or power to empower our communities. And so, I am very thankful to be able to claim my superpower as faith, just like my former sister did just a few moments ago. Faith is what drives me.
Dunamis actually means, for all of my fellow believers out here, God power. And it is what drives me. It is what sustains me. It is what keeps me. It is what provides for me. It is the reason why I went into the clean energy technology field in the first place. And I believe very strongly, as a matter of fact, I know that it is also a power, a superpower, that resides in every last single one of us.
Every honoree here tonight has Dunamis power in them. That is your superpower. It helps you to sustain. It helps you to persevere. It helps you to keep going in spite of. It helps you to keep going because of. And it helps you to keep going no matter what. And so, I want to encourage every single person here and every beautiful honoree out here tonight, maintain your superpower of faith. Keep going no matter what. And when you are striving and moving forward in purpose, there is nothing that can stop you from the provisions that God has for you. So, I thank you so much, Munson, for honoring me tonight.
