The daughter of legendary actor John Amos of “Good Times” fame has hired a lawyer to investigate the alleged suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Amos, who played the iconic role of James Evans in the 1970s sitcom, died on Aug. 21, 2024, at age 84. News of his death wasn’t publicized for more than a month, which is how Shannon Amos learned of it.
Shannon Amos retained an attorney to find out why her father was taken to the Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles, what was the state of his health when he entered the facility, and what happened to him during his final days at the medical center.
Lawyer says daughter ‘deserves’ to know
“The family deserves to know the full circumstances surrounding Mr. Amos’ care and the events that led to his passing. We are committed to pursuing all available avenues to ensure that these questions are answered,” attorney James H. Davis III said in a statement obtained by Complex magazine.
“Ms. Amos and her legal team emphasize the importance of transparency in health care and the rights of families to access critical medical information. The investigation will continue to seek answers and accountability in this deeply personal and significant matter.”
Moreover, Shannon Amos wants to know why someone would pretend to be his daughter when her famous father was dropped off at the hospital.
The daughter notified the media that she and her attorney requested the actor’s medical records three times without a response, which set off alarm bells for the pair.
Shannon Amos has already filed a complaint with Adult Protective Services on the grounds that her father was allegedly a victim of elder abuse by her brother, K.C. Amos.
John Amos requested delay, publicist says
It is suspicious to Shannon Amos that she found out that her father passed away in October 2024 — through the media, no less — more than six weeks after he had died from reported congestive heart failure.
However, Belinda Foster, who was Amos’ publicist, said John Amos requested that the announcement of his impending death be delayed.
“At the time of his death, John was concerned that Shannon might turn his death and interment into a circus as she had done with other aspects of his life.” She added, “It was John who requested the delay in announcing his death to Shannon and the rest of the world.”
