Legendary hip-hop artist and DJ D-Nice announced the fifth anniversary of his Club Quarantine on the social media app where it all began, Instagram. D-Nice will hold his #CQ5 anniversary on Saturday, March 22, at the iconic Apollo Theater in Harlem.

“I was inspired by just being home alone during quarantine,” the DJ, born Derrick Jones, told me in March 2020.

Originally called Home School, Club Quarantine exploded immediately as most people were home during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, proving that music brings people together. Some of the numerous stars from all walks of life that logged into his Instagram live feed in the first few weeks included former First Lady Michelle Obama, global entertainment icons Rihanna, Janet Jackson, and Oprah Winfrey, award-winning comedian Dave Chappelle, and countless others.

D-Nice orchestrating on both coasts

When doors began to open during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, D-Nice, through his BrandNice, has orchestrated events from coast to coast, including Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and his hometown of New York City. He has curated events at iconic venues such as the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Apollo Theater.

It is a return to Harlem for D-Nice, as he celebrated the third anniversary of Club Quarantine at the Apollo Theater two years ago and annually assists with the Apollo Spring Benefit, the venue’s signature event, which honored Usher and Babyface in 2024.

The event two years ago featured performances from hip-hop legends Busta Rhymes, Big Daddy Kane, Fat Joe, Special Ed, R&B singers Christopher Williams, Meli’sa Morgan, Reggae icon Super Cat, host Kenny Burns, and even an appearance from actor and singer Donnie Walberg.

The Apollo Theater continues its internationally renowned Amateur Night at The Apollo, its monthly signature events, Apollo Comedy Club and Apollo Music Cafe, and special events for Black History Month. Visit the Apollo Theater’s website for tickets and additional information.
