Harlem music lovers, hip-hop stars, and fans from around New York City descended to the Penthouse in downtown Manhattan in celebration of the Friday 28, 2025, release of At the Church Steps, the latest album by Jim Jones, on the evening of the day the album dropped. Remy Ma and Dave East were among the recording artists who were in attendance.
It was a high-profile week for Jones, who appeared on the world-famous radio show “The Breakfast Club” on the eve of the album’s release to discuss it. The album features appearances by Fabolous, Dave East, Maino, and Conway The Machine, amongst others.
Jones also challenged fellow Diplomats member Cam’ron to a boxing match on his appearance.
“He don’t want no smoke. I’ll box his head off,” Jones said before suggesting that iconic boxer Floyd Mayweather get involved as a promoter for the event. “I’ll meet you in any boxing ring.
“Now go make some jokes about that on your next show,” he said, referring to the “It Is What It Is podcast” Cam’ron hosts with fellow Harlem hip-hop artist Ma$e.
Jones, best known for his 2000s hit single, “We Fly High (Ballin’),” which reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his first top ten hit. It also topped the Hot Rap Tracks chart and reached number four on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. Certified platinum by the RIAA, the single solidified his status in the culture. He released his first album, On My Way To Church, in August 2004.
Jones discussed his legendary drip and style and shared his Harlem hip-hop GOATs with rolling out in late 2023 while celebrating the release of the collaborative album ByrdGang 2.0. He credited his mom, whom he called a “fashion god.”
Here’s to hoping that Jones and Cam’ron, like Harlem natives Ma$e and Cam’ron, who buried past beef before launching the podcast, can do the same and reunite to perform with Juelz Santana as a collective, which they did in August 2021, when they squared off with the Lox in a Verzuz battle in New York City.
