It’s time to press play. This Friday was supposed to be Playboi Carti‘s day. All Thursday, he hyped up the release of his first album since his 2020 classic Whole Lotta Red. Every big hip-hop personality and streamer made it clear that the album was dropping today. PlaqueBoy Maxx, Kai Cenat, and even DJ Akademiks all confirmed on their individual streams that Carti’s new album would be out Friday at midnight, but to nobody’s surprise, there is no Carti album.
Since we don’t have Playboi …
We have a whole bunch of other fire music come out today to make up for it. Let’s get into it.
Deebaby — Ms. Salazar
One of my favorite artists post-pandemic is back with his latest project. Ms. Salazar is named after DeeBaby’s mother and rightfully so, he put his heart in it. DeeBaby is known for his authenticity, whether it’s discussing his drug issues or talking about loved ones that he’s lost, DeeBaby wears his heart on his sleeve and holds nothing back. If you didn’t know DeeBaby before, get familiar with Houston’s finest.
Standout Tracks: Can’t Be In My Feelings,” Feel Like Giving Up” and “Controversial”
K Camp — Built Different
When it comes to making the party jump, not many have done it more consistently than K Camp, who has been religiously dropping bangers for the past decade. He’s back with another masterpiece with his latest album, Built Different. Lately, K camp has leaned into the melodies and on this album it’s more of the same. K Camp shows off his vocal range on songs like “Hair & Bills” and “Two Of Us.” He keeps the rap enthusiasts happy too with songs like “Box Em In.” This album has a little something for everybody.
Singles
“My Baby” – 03 Greedo featuring Shordie Shordie
These two melodic masters linked up for my favorite song today, “My Baby.” The two rappers trade harmonized verses about the nasty things they wanna do to their lil’ baby.
“Tip Remix” – Austin Rogers featuring Jacquees
Austin Rogers’ “Tip” has been going viral since its release, being one of the most Shazam’d songs in not only Atlanta, but the entire country. Now, he has an Atlanta legend to hop on the remix and it will assuredly make the song even bigger than it already is.
“I’ll Be Good” – JayDon
JayDon is the latest signing to Usher’s mega label and Usher is announcing him in a huge way, by clearing the classic sample of “How Do I Say.” JayDon flips this song perfectly. The little boy who played Simba is now a grown man.
