Halle Bailey has filed for a temporary restraining order against DDG. The legal filing marks a serious escalation in the relationship between the former couple who share a young child together.
The 25-year-old singer previously dated the rapper – whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. – and has 19-month-old son Halo with him but just over six months after they announced their split, PEOPLE has learned via legal documents that she is accusing him of various kinds of abuse. The relationship between the two artists had been closely followed by fans since they began dating.
In the legal documents that were obtained by the outlet, she said: “I realize that there is no placating Darryl. I cannot allow this abuse any longer. The court filing details multiple incidents that have allegedly occurred since their separation.
“Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts badmouthing me to his several millions of fans. The online nature of these accusations has amplified the situation, creating concerns for Bailey’s safety and privacy.
“He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. As a result, I then receive threats and hate on social media. He seems to try to set up drama for his fans. He goes ‘live’ ranting about me and alleges that I am keeping Halo from him. This is false. I have requested a set schedule, which he refuses.” Social media has played a significant role in how this personal matter has unfolded publicly.
The ‘Little Mermaid’ star included photographic evidence with her request, which included pictures of her bearing a chipped front tooth and a large bruise on her bicep. These photographs serve as concerning evidence in the case and have been formally submitted to the court.
Bailey also included a text message which she alleged she sent to her former partner. The message shows her attempts to communicate clearly about her whereabouts and activities.
It read: “Darryl, are u not tired of harassing me? you make up a new lie on me everyday.. i’m in st lucia having fun with shermay and chloe. not with any man out here. i wouldn’t do that, i have halo. i told ur mom i was gonna be with my sister last week.. please let me enjoy my mother’s day in peace. i hope you are okay and feel better soon.” The text suggests ongoing communication issues between the former couple.
The actress has requested full custody of her son Halo and intends to take him to Italy for two months while she works on a film project. Bailey’s career continues to advance with international commitments in the entertainment industry.
“I have family and a nanny who will be traveling with me to care for Halo while I am working,” the court document detailed. This indicates her planning for childcare arrangements during her professional obligations.
“I also ask the Court to order Darryl to cease from posting and/or streaming on about Halo and/or me, including but not limited to Youtube, Twitch, Tiktok, Instagram, and Twitter/X. The request specifically addresses DDG‘s substantial online presence and influence.
“He is a YouTube and Twitch Blogger and creates a fan frenzy by making false claims about me. This has caused me to feel afraid and victimized. His fans then threaten me. I am often scared for my life and Halo’s safety. #freehalo has become a slogan online.” The hashtag mentioned has gained traction on various social media platforms, further complicating the personal situation.
The case highlights the challenging intersection of celebrity relationships, social media influence, and co-parenting responsibilities. As public figures, both Bailey and DDG have substantial online followings that have become engaged in their personal matters.
The court will now review the restraining order request and supporting evidence before making a determination. Legal experts note that temporary restraining orders typically require demonstrating immediate danger or harm, with evidence that supports these claims.
Bailey, known for her work as part of the musical duo Chloe x Halle and her role in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid,” has maintained a largely private personal life despite her public career. This legal filing represents a significant development in her efforts to establish boundaries in her co-parenting relationship.
Neither DDG nor his representatives have issued formal statements responding to the filing at this time. The rapper, who has built a substantial following across multiple social media platforms, has previously spoken about co-parenting challenges on his channels.
The entertainment industry and fans alike are watching the situation closely, as it reflects broader issues of relationships, parenting, and the impact of social media on personal disputes. The court’s decision regarding the restraining order will likely have significant implications for both parties’ ongoing relationship and parenting arrangements.
