How did the OMG Booth come about?
While looking for a fun experience to entertain guests at our wedding, my wife [Shekita R. James] and I encountered many challenges of finding the right fit for such a large crowd with a dynamic age range. We were fans of the photo booth concept, but we found them to be generic, cramped and old-fashioned. With our wedding, we wanted to customize an experience that fit our personality and was big enough to cater to large groups. We wanted our guests to brag on Facebook about how cool the new Jameses were. On April 2, 2010, we were united as one and gave birth to the OMG Booth.
What has been the best thing about owning your own company?
There are obvious perks to having a business like this in a [city] as multifaceted as Atlanta. But simply enough, the best part of OMG Booth is the fact that my wife and I can build this together.
What were your thoughts on Kevin Hart’s photo shoot with rolling out magazine?
The Kevin Hart shoot was amazing. Hart is Shekita’s favorite comedian and she feels that she has a close connection to him since they can literally see eye to eye on things. Sadly, we were busy with multiple booths when “Laugh at My Pain” tour swept through Atlanta. As an anniversary gift, I surprised Shekita with a trip to Las Vegas where she was able to see him in concert at the Mirage. As great as “Laugh at My Pain” was live, spending the afternoon with him in the OMG Booth was far superior.
What advice do you have for people who are looking to start a family business?
Decide very early what is most important, the family or the business. There will come days when you will experience challenges that makes it easy to forget your priorities. But you must always look back at where you started. Always remember that no matter how tough it gets, if God blessed you with the vision, he’ll bless you with the provision.
