A Washington, D.C., police officer has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing at least two teenage girls. Officer Darrell Best was arrested and is charged with four counts of sexual assault, including first-degree sex abuse while armed. Surprisingly, this is not the first time the officer, who is also a youth minister, has been accused of sexual assault. The previous accusation by a fellow officer did not cost him his job, instead he was demoted from the rank of sergeant.
Best is also a youth minister at God of the Second Chance church in D.C. where he is accused of assaulting one of his victims. The victim, who is an unidentified 16-year-old female, claims that on three different occasions Best had her leave choir practice to have sex with her. These incidents took place from December 2014 until as recently as this month. The second teen victim claims she was sexually assaulted by Best at police headquarters. Supporting her claim was her detailed description of the office and pictures on the wall where the assault took place. Neither a police spokesman or a police union representative will comment on the case because it is deemed a “personnel matter” and as such no public statement can be made. Best is currently awaiting a hearing and is in custody.
