Is it possible to have a successful photo shoot without a great glam squad in place? Well, it’s possible, but the odds are heavily stacked against you. That’s why rolling out was thrilled to have Annagjid Kee Taylor on board for our Tika Sumpter cover shoot. As an in-demand celebrity hairstylist, Taylor brought her unique skill set to the table for this amazing cover shoot experience. Here’s what Taylor had to say behind-the-scenes:
Describe the hair for today’s shoot.
Today, the look that we used was very big, fun and flirty. It almost came across as a ‘fro, because it was supposed to feel like she was the girl next door. We didn’t want to be too seductive with something sleek or sultry … it was more fun and quirky.
What are some of the things that you have to keep in mind when working with Tika?
Tika is very particular, but she’s also very open to a lot of suggestions. It’s really fun working with her because we’re always screaming a bunch of ideas back and forth. We always meet in somewhere in the middle though, so it’s really, really great working with her.
How do you prepare when working with celebrities?
I just try to make sure that I have everything, just like I would with any client. When working with celebrities, you begin to find that they are just like any other person … some are a little more meticulous, but that’s with any woman. So what I always do is make sure that I have all of my tools available, just in case there’s a sudden change–which happens a lot in photo shoots.
What are some of the challenges that you face when shooting for a magazine?
You really have the understand the depth of what is needed, as far as how much fullness you need. How hair translates on television is totally different from how you might see it in a magazine, and that is completely different from how you see it in person.
