It’s scorching hot outside, which can often cause frustrating moments in the morning when choosing what to wear to the office or to a meeting. Although the heat may be uncomfortable, going too bare for work is risky business for numerous reasons. Here are some tips on how to stay cool and chic during these trying summer months. –mckenzie harris

Stay cool, but be smart about it

The easiest way to stay cool is by wearing sleeveless tops and dresses. It’s OK to show your arms in the office as long as it is appropriate. Think Michelle Obama. Do not wear strapless tops, show cleavage or a bare back unless layered underneath a cardigan or jacket.

Go for dresses that give you some breathing room

Keep the too-tight, ultra-short numbers for after-work hours. Floaty, easy, breezy dresses are the prefect way to go in your work place. Light fabrics will keep you cool all summer long.

Show off the right way … with color

One piece of pop in your wardrobe will add some fun to your outfit. Try it with a colorful cardigan or fun sandals to break up the neutrals in your wardrobe. Summer is a great time to try color-blocking as well. This article shows you how to pull the look off.

Lighten up your accessories

This is probably the easiest way to mix things up. Switch you work handbags to a summery shade like vanilla or soft rose. It keeps things businesslike but airy, even if the purse is leather.

Keep those toes professional, too

It’s imperative to keep your toes looking summertime fine while peeking through your sandals. Wear a pair of chunky, strappy sandals to the office. They look great with dresses, skirts, and pants and won’t be as stuffy as loafers or pumps. Leave your flip-flops for the weekends, however. No one likes to hear the sound they make around the office, and they definitely dress down a nice outfit.
