ATLANTA— The annual Trumpet Awards celebrated the beautiful voice of Charlie Wilson, the designing brilliance of General Motors’ vice president of design Ed Welburn, the masterful singing of Chaka Khan and the humanitarian efforts of former NBA star Alonzo Mourning at the televised gala sponsored by Cadillac.
At the pre-show “Cadillac Conversations” brunch, held at the Grand Hyatt, Ambassador Andrew Young praised the executives of Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, and fellow brand, Chevrolet, for providing the greatest financial contribution (more than $100 million) for the construction of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C., in the fall of 2011.
Taking place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Marietta, Ga., the event also paid homage to living legend Tom Joyner and Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed. The after-party at the Grand Hyatt on Saturday evening was the sole domain of beloved crooner Charlie Wilson, who serenaded the crowd with many of his timeless hits.
