Ashanti's New Record Label Venture: 4 Other Female Bosses in Music

Things have been quiet for R&B singer Ashanti ever since she parted ways with her longtime record label, Murder Inc., in 2009. But now Ashanti’s preparing to make a comeback on her own terms and has reportedly launched a record label.

According to MTV’s RapFix, Ashanti recently launched Written Entertainment label and has also teamed with eOne Music to release a new studio album.

“I’m so excited to have my own record label, Written Entertainment. With eOne as my distributor, I feel that their innovative and ambitious approach to the music industry, really gives my label a worldwide presence,”Ashanti said in a statement. “They have the top radio people in the business and are hungry to win! The more I learned the business the more I knew this is what I wanted. Ownership is so important. As a busines woman this was a great move for me.”

Apparently, Ashanti has already begun work on new material and even grabbed a guest verse from Busta Rhymes on the album’s lead single, “The Woman You Love.”

Congrats to Ashanti on starting up her own record label. In such a male-dominated industry, it’s difficult to find female artists who are willing to not only lead their careers, but the careers of other artists. Here are four other female artists who also decided to become bosses in the music industry.
