Last month, legendary record executive L.A. Reid left his post asthe head of Island Def Jam and announced his position as one of the newest judges of “The X Factor.” But now Reid is claiming that he plans to return to the music industry and will soon announce a move to another label.
In an interview with Hot 97’s DJ Angie Martinez Tuesday night (April 12), Reid explained that he’s sad about his departure from Universal Music Group, the parent company to Island Def Jam, but says he wants to try his hand at another label.
“I’m packed up and I’m sad and I’m out,” said Reid. “Listen, I’m nobody’s fool, I didn’t give up my day job. I just left, I had to leave Universal Music Group and try my hat on someplace else, that we’ll announce, well … we’ll announce that in a little while.”
Reid explains that he’s not turning his back on his original bread and butter.
“You’re not done with me yet,” he stressed. “I’m telling you the truth: I have not been shipped off to TV land. I am a record executive and I shall be right there in your face with my records.”
Insiders speculate that Reid will follow his former Universal boss Doug Morris, who’ll become CEO of Sony Music Entertainment on July 1, and nab a position at Sony.
