Kendrick Lamar threw the hip-hop game into a tailspin this summer when he challenged all of the top dog’s in the game, especially Drake, with his menacing growl of a verse on Big Sean’s “Control.” However, one person he didn’t challenge was hip-hop’s top female MC, Nicki Minaj. Although Minaj has been mum about the song since its release, she’s now finally opened up about the track and had some big and bold words for Kendrick’s oversight.
“I’m probably in the top five of the n—– he did mention, so go and do your mother——- research,” Minaj said while backstage with “The Breakfast Club” at Power 105’s Powerhouse concert. “But, I also feel like he may be one of those respectful gentlemen that probably felt like, ‘I don’t want to say a female’s name.’ Or maybe he just don’t think the kid is ill. But the kid knows the kid is ill, so I don’t need to be on nobody’s d—.”
And although Minaj didn’t claim to have any beef with Kendrick, she did playfully, but sternly, challenged his title of “The King of New York.”
“I’m the Queen of New York; I’m the King of New York. Let me tell you why. Platinum albums,” Minaj said, referring to her projects Pink Friday and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, both of which have been certified platinum. “Albums. Plural. Number one in five motherf—— countries, n—-. Don’t play with me. You better respect my mother—— gangsta, b—-. When you got an album that goes No. 1 in Japan, the UK, Australia, America and Canada at the same mother—— time, then you can speak my mother—— name.”
Minaj later posted the interview online and tweeted that she had no grudge against Kendrick.
