Prince covers ‘ESSENCE’
Prince is covering the latest issue of Essence magazine and in it dishing on a possible tour with The Revolution.
“I’m not putting down The Revolution, even though people would love to see us together again. I owe a great debt to them. But I’m doing something else,” said the eclectic singer.
In the article, “Prince After Dark,” the singer pulls back the purple curtain on his legacy, gives his take on mentoring and shares why creating and performing music make him feel alive. He also added in the issue that hits newsstands May 9 that he’s cleaned up the lyrics in his music.
“Did you ever hear Muhammad Ali curse?” he said. “Would you curse in front of your kids? To your mother? Marsha [Ambrosius], Lianne [La Havas], Janelle [Monae] … They’re all my sisters. We shouldn’t curse at them. We need to treat all of them, and all people, like royalty.”
Prince will be a mainstage headliner at the 20th anniversary Essence Music Festival, which takes place July 3-6 in New Orleans. Visit www.essencefestival.com for details.
