The aggression in Libya has officially escalated, with American, French and British military forces launching an operation on President Moammar Gadhafi’s military March 19. The move is an attempt to weaken the dictator’s army, and force him to adhere to a U.N.-mandated cease fire on his people.
While many around the global community — Arab nations included — support the decision of the involved Global powers, Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan offered a dissenting opinion.
During a recent visit to a Chicago-area radio station, Farrakhan offered words of advice to President Obama, begging him and the American people not to fall for what he believes to be a covert and foolish government operation to remove Gadhafi from power.
When addressing the president’s role in particular, Farrakhan grew both visibly and vocally impassioned:
“Don’t let these wicked demons move you in a direction that will absolutely ruin your future with your people in Africa and throughout the world,” he pleaded to Obama. “They don’t like the way you handled (former Egyptian President Hosni) Mubarak! They don‘t like the way you’re handling the situation in the Arab world! So I would advise you to be careful and move with wisdom and skill. My advice would be, why don’t you organize a group of respected Americans, and ask for a meeting with Gadhafi? You can’t order him to step down, and get out … who the hell do you think you are, that you can talk to a man that built a country over 42 years, and ask him to step down and get out? Can anybody ask you? Well, well there’s a lot, now, [that are] going to ask you to step out of the White House, because they don’t want a black face in the White House.”
One has to assume the president will not offer a direct response to Farrakhan’s thoughts.
