Born McArthur Swindle, a 21-year-old rapper commonly known as “OTF Nunu” or “Nuski,” was gunned down at a shopping mall in the Chatham neighborhood last Saturday afternoon. Reportedly, funeral services are being scheduled for this coming Sunday.
The first cousin of Def Jam recording artist Lil’ Durk or Durk Banks, Nunu was sitting in his white SUV in the 700 block of East 87th Street when the assailant approached Nunu’s vehicle on foot and began shooting, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
As Nunu tried to flee the shooting, his vehicle crashed into the front window of the nearby, B Fresh.
According to Nunu’s aunt, Sherri Swindle, Nunu had a good heart with lots of soul and wasn’t affiliated with any gangs. However, many of Nunu’s personal photos and tweets from Instagram and Twitter alluded to gang-related activities.
At the time of his death, Nunu was preparing for the release of his mixtape tentatively titled, Nuski Got Da Strap for release later this summer. Chicago’s unique genre of rap, commonly known as “drill music” often deals with enjoying life, the typical braggadocios rantings and hyper-masculine energy. Nunu had just released a visual for his song with Lil’ Durk called, “OC.”
He was also taking classes at a community college in Joliet, Illinois. Funeral arrangements are still being made by the family.
To date, Nunu’s shooter has not been apprehended.
