Hampton University homecoming 2013
Hampton University’s 2013 homecoming celebration was filled with the tradition and rites that make this historically black college “a thought sent from heaven above.” With the theme “The Royal Standard: The Legacy Continues,” Hamptonians kept the university’s student center packed with current students and alumni who welcomed sounds from DJ LP and patronized vendors.
The sororities and fraternities of the divine 9 came out in droves and marked the occasion with their strolls and member meet and greets. In a surprise twist Dr. William R. Harvey (above), the school’s president for more than 30 years, walked through the main hub of activity to personally welcome alumni back to their “home by the sea.”
Later, Hamptonians withstood wind and rain to watch The Pirates beat North Carolina A&T’s Aggies 31-26, an especially memorable win considering it was the team’s first win of the season. Stands were flooded with blue and white both inside and outside the stadium where the legendary “Marching Force” band played ’90s hits for their retro-themed halftime show.
