The universally admired Michelle Obama is not your ordinary American dignitary. The wife of former President Barack Obama seems much bigger than just the former first lady of the United States — and irrefutably much more popular than her several of her predecessors. In fact, as some have suggested, Michelle Obama is on the level of a “rock star” or, even better, a member of American royalty.
The ticket prices for her highly-anticipated book tour to promote Becoming is, subsequently, reflective of this fact. The demand to be in proximity to her, which is amplified by these volatile times, is very high.
This has Obama at odds with many of the lower- and middle-class fans who intensely adulate her. They are griping vociferously that the median prices to her book tour are out of their range and rival a seat to an upper-level NFL game or the OTR II concert with Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
As reported, prices are anywhere from $30 to $3K with the prices varying between cities. For instance, the lowest price of a ticket during her Dallas stop is $855, while in Inglewood, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, the lowest is $125.
Deborah Speer, editor of concert magazine Pollstar, explained why the prices might have such a spike.
“You don’t see it every day, but she’s not a typical author. Michelle Obama is kind of a rock star herself,” Speer said.
Folks who don’t understand that used social media to express their displeasure with Ticketmaster and the Obama handlers:
Other fans, however, were very eager to shell out the coins for Obama’s tour and couldn’t wait to let the world know that they’ll be in attendance.
What do you make of the Michelle Obama book tour prices? Do you think that Obama, who emanated from very humble Chicago origins, was not being empathetic to her cash-strapped fan base?
