Derek Luke is making a return to television this summer after signing to star in the latest season of Jada Pinkett Smith’s hit TNT medical drama “HawthoRNe.”
According to blackvoices.com, a spokesperson for TNT explained that Luke will pay the role of Dr. Miles Bourdet, a sexy young surgeon who comes to James River Hospital as the protégé of the chief of surgery, Dr. Tom Wakefield (Michael Vartan). Although currently embroiled in a divorce, Bourdet will attract the romantic attention of Christina Hawthorne’s (Pinkett Smith) rebellious daughter Camille Hawthorne (Hannah Hodson).
Luke’s last attempt at television success was ironically on the short-lived NBC medical drama “Trauma” as lead character Cameron Boone.
Luke originally rose to Hollywood fame as the star of the 2002 Denzel Washington-directed film, Antwone Fisher, before starring in films such as Biker Boyz, Friday Night Lights, Miracle at St. Anna and Notorious.
Besides, landing a multiple episode arc on “HawthoRNe,” Luke is also set to star as character Gabe Jones in the upcoming film Captain America: The First Avenger, set to hit theaters in July.
