Brittney Griner has had a monumental year as she proved that her status as last year’s No. 1 WNBA draft pick was well deserved with her record-breaking achievement with the Pheonix Mercury. Now the WNBA superstar is getting some recognition for her success with a major LGBT award.

After earning the title of Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and helping the Pheonix Mercury win this year’s title, Outsports.com has revealed this week that they’ve named Griner the Female Athlete of the Year for her success on the hardwood.

The website also revealed that Griner won the title for her inspiring life off the court, which includes proposing to her WNBA player girlfriend, Glory Johnson, this summer.
