Keke Palmer is not buying what society is selling.
In a new interview with Flaunt magazine, the “Scream Queens” standout star opened up about not conforming to society’s standards. ““Society is not always saying: do yoga, meditate, go to the park and read a book. Society’s yelling go buy so-and-so jacket, you need those new shoes, and if you don’t have this Lamborghini, well, you might as well just f—ing kill yourself! That’s what the world is telling you. And then when you do all those things you still find yourself unhappy and you’re like, oh s— I really need to off myself. No! You’re heading in the wrong direction.”
Growing up south of Chicago, in a town called Robbins, aka “the ‘hood,” as Palmer called it, where the average income was around $13,000, the focus was being “rich in community,” not in material things.
Palmer, who at one point was the fourth highest-paid child actor in the world, making $20,000 per episode as the lead in Nickelodeon’s “True Jackson,” also went on to discuss her new memoir, I Don’t Belong To You and embracing change. “I’m always looking for something new to put myself into that’s going to help me expand,” she said.
