Marketing and branding expert Olivia Scott-Perkins launches new business and summer sweepstakes

Olivia Scott-Perkins took what she terms a “[circuitous] route” to reach career success.  “My core high school and undergraduate training is in creative writing and journalism. I was strategic with the brand name of the organizations I chose to work for and intentionally created a career with a 360 perspective, including the marketing trifecta, starting at ad agencies — Leo Burnett, DDB, Frankel and Ogilvy Action­, expanding into media properties — Live Nation, VIBE, iN DEMAND TV, and then finally the brand side — Carol’s Daughter,” she says.

Scott-Perkins launched her entrepreneurial venture, Omerge Alliances, “[to] channel my collective experiences with no limits on what I could create or execute.”


Here, the principal consultant talks about inspiration, friends and the best books to read.

What inspires you to show up at work every day?


The opportunity to create something every day … the fact that I love what I do, am well qualified and am passionate about marketing, branding, my clients and operating a consultancy in a fun, unique way.

Who do you consider your peers in your industry?

Renae Bluitt, Crush Media and In Her Shoes blog founder, has been a long-time peer and colleague since 1995. We met in Chicago, and have consistently supported each other professionally. Specifically, Renae authored a wonderful blog post about Omerge Alliances when we launched in November, and I have featured her as well on my blog when she’s received various accolades.  … I admire her mission and passion for building a formidable brand that supports women in business.

Letena Lindsay, principal of L2 Public Relations, has also been a trusted peer and colleague since 1995. I admire Letena’s business savvy, work ethic, sophistication and her commitment to superior work output quality. 

Tyrha Lindsay of LAI Communications is a seasoned PR veteran whom I admire her tenacity and creativity, and is an incredible supporter as well.

Names three books that changed how you saw life and you recommend to others?

Brand Against The Machine by John Morgan [teaches] that your brand and hence reputation is your most valuable asset.

Fortunate Son by Walter Mosley [teaches] that although looks and money may be desirable assets, that there are other assets like personality traits, like strength and a kind heart, that others may envy more.

Return To Love by Marianne Williamson changed my world view on relating to others, including parents, peers, husband, friends — we are all unique and must be regarded for that and not compete [against others].
