Mannie Fresh slams Big Tymers: ‘It’s like doing a Jackson 5 album with Boyz II Men’

2008 NBA All-Star Finale Party: Hot Boyz Reunion Hosted by Juvenile, BG, Wayne and Mannie Fresh

The Big Tymers were among the biggest acts on Cash Money Records in the late ’90s and early 2000s. And according to former member and producer, Mannie Fresh, it’s a travesty for labelhead Bryan “Birdman” Williams to relaunch the Big Tymers name (which previously consisted solely of Fresh and Williams) with new label stars filling out the roster.

Birdman revealed earlier this month that the Big Tymers will be releasing a new album, but this time around, the group will feature himself, as well as YMCMB superstars Drake and Lil Wayne.

“It’s kinda like doing a Jackson 5 album with Boyz II Men. Two different eras, great artists, but Boyz II Men is not the Jackson 5,” Fresh told “RapFix Live” via Skype.

Mannie Fresh departed the Cash Money label years ago amid disputes about payment. Up to that point, Fresh had been the label’s in-house producer and his signature sound was behind Cash Money’s biggest hits of that era.

“I don’t bash Cash Money, Birdman, or none of them. It’s really on, I’m just striving on just getting what I deserve, you know, what I put in,” Mannie added. “Honestly I think Drake is a great artist, I think Wayne is a great artist, but they not the Big Tymers.”
