This year in television there were noticeably less scripted shows with majority black casts but there were still a number of dramas, comedies and reality shows with minority cast members that adeptly married moving acting with hilarious, stirring and groundbreaking storylines. Here’s ro’s list for the best shows of 2010. –nicholas robinson
1. “True Blood” – They may have lost the sexy Eggs last season but this super hot supernatural drama upped the ante this year with it’s inclusion of werewolves, fairies, sociopathic vampire king and a love interest for fan favorite, LaFayette Reynolds.
2. “Modern Family” – There’s a reason this show continues to win over millions of Americans. No other comedy makes quirky, diverse and complex characters as well as universal human comedy so relatable and charming.
3. “Breaking Bad” – Who would’ve thought that a show about a chemistry teacher stricken with terminal cancer turned meth dealer could be so addictive and entertaining? It’s nothing short of spellbinding to watch Walter and his partner in crime, Jesse, spiral down a dark path of drugs, violence and chaos.
4. “Family Guy” – This long-lived cartoon comedy continues to push the envelope with its thoughtful and bizarre comedic sense, this year alone, artfully covering topics such as abortion, suicide and a twisted story of Santa Claus and his elves.
5. “The Boondocks” – Covering issues such as Obama’s election, the prison system and Tyler Perry, no other cartoon was as brilliantly clever, poignant or polarizing than this season of Aaron McGruder’s deliciously savvy and controversial cartoon.
6. “The Good Wife” – CBS’ hit legal drama continues to steam up the courtrooms with its scorching love triangle, vicious corporate shuffles and heavyweight cast additions like Michael Ealy and Anika Noni Rose.
7. “Dexter” – With a season drenched in shocking tragedy for its lead character and ever present thrilling storylines, Showtime’s hit drama proves that sometimes you just can’t help but to empathize with and love the bad guy.
8. “Law & Order: SVU” – Season after this show continues to turn out gripping tales of sexual violence and the grave landscape of lawful heroism in New York, and with good reason, fans should continue to watch this pulse-pounding crime drama.
9. “The Real Housewives Of Atlanta” – With NeNe’s marital drama, Kim and Kandi’s musical shenanigans and Phaedra’s baby blunders, this season has provided nothing less than premium must-see drama.
10. “Community” – Where other comedies play upon obscene and bizarre punch lines, Community continues to play up its meta-humor strength, referencing TV clichés and pop culture with excess and precision that makes for a great watch.
