HIV Positive Band Director Arrested for Molesting Teenage Boy; Released on $6,800 Bond

Parents and school officials trusted Travis McCauley to teach their kids music in the CSRA All-Star Band. McCauley served as the director of the traveling band that taught teens how to play instruments on a collegiate level.

But McCauley abused his position by taking advantage of a 15-year-old boy who participated in the band. According to reports, McCauley coerced the young boy into having sex with him four times in two months.

McCauley denied having contact with the child after the victim’s parents initially asked if he had been seeing their son.

However, the teen learned of McCauley’s HIV status days after the two engaged in another sexual act  two weeks ago and told his parents. McCauley was arrested once he finally admitted to having sex with the boy and not revealing his status. Although he is charged with reckless conduct by an HIV-infected person, child molestation  and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, McCauley has been released on a $6,800 bond by the Richmond County’s Sheriff’s office in Augusta, Georgia.

McCauley deserved a heftier bond and should be given the maximum sentence for manipulating and potentially destroying the life of a child in his care. –a.r.
