Ving Rhames to Star in TV Pilot, ‘Black Jack’

Veteran actor Ving Rhames has played the leading man in a number of dramatic projects, but rarely have audiences seen him display his comedic chops. But now Rhames will get a chance to show fans his funny side as the lead character of a new pilot for Comedy Central titled, “Black Jack.”

According to, Comedy Central, whose execs were intent on finding the right actor for the role, picked up the pilot last month after Rhames was named the pilot’s star.

In the single-camera comedy, Rhames’ Black Jack character is a special operative for the U.S. government whose 20-year career ends after being decommissioned for going too far on the job.

The pilot will be written by Michael Starrbury and directed and executive produced by David Gordon Green of Pineapple Express fame, whose production company, Rough House, will handle  production for the show.

“Black Jack” marks the second time Rhames has landed the title role in a series, the first time being his portrayal of “Kojak” in the 2005 USA remake of the classic crime-drama series.
