“A Spicy Wifey is a woman who is either married or in a committed relationship, that aspires to represent marriage in a way that is hot, vibrant and sexy,” explains Quintessence Patterson, founder of the new movement to make marriage desirable.

Unlike most young companies, Patterson has star power behind her movement — Mo’Nique is a fan. “Mo’Nique had me on the show. She’s one of my biggest supporters, and it’s helped me so much this summer. We’re really hoping to take this concept to the next level,” she states.

Spicy Wifey participates in seminars and workshops geared to turn up the heat.
“We were invited to participate in the event, The Art of Fellatio,” Patterson chuckles, “but we run the gamut. We’re all about spicing up your marriage in every aspect. Cooking classes, sensual massage class, breakfast-in-bed workshop, lap dance class, burlesque, spicy photo shoot [where wives have sensual photos taken for their husbands].”

And SpicyWifey.com also sells great tees to reaffirm the sexiness of being in a committed relationship. “We are currently building our website to increase the lines that we carry in or online boutique.”

Patterson, an Atlanta-based professional makeup artist by trade, began SpicyWifey.com to address the negative, unflattering portrayals of married life in general and of wives in particular.

“I started Spicy Wifey because I’m a wife, and I work in the television-film industry as a makeup artist, and women told me all the time, ‘I had no idea you were married. You don’t look like a wife. You look like a girlfriend,'” Patterson explained.

“And I thought, what does that really mean? I used to get offended until I really thought about it, and I saw an opportunity to really try to encourage and invigorate women because, when you do become married, we do tend to focus on other priorities, and we somewhat neglect ourselves and our relationships.”

On a wider scale, Patterson says she did not appreciate the bland portrayals of wives that are abundant in the media. “I did not see a lot of images that really reflected an accurate portrayal of marriage and what marriage really could be,” Patterson states.

“And in advertising scenarios, you typically see the woman pitching things such as laundry detergent. It was a one-sided portrayal of what a wife is and what marriage is, and as result, people have a negative impression of marriage and commitment. [Men think] ‘Once you get married, your girlfriend is no longer hot. She’s going to have a baby, she’s not going to get dressed up anymore, she’s not going to feel good anymore. No longer can we look forward to going on hot dates and having hot sex. We have to think about our children and paying bills.’ Those things do exist, but we strive to create balance and just represent a different perspective for marriage.”

Spicy Wifey is inclusive of males, as Patterson wants men to get involved as well. “I want Spicy Wifey to be a source of inspiration and a resource to encourage women,” Patterson says. “And we get men involved to [help them] appreciate why they married the women they did.” –zondra hughes
