Speaking with MTV News, Wayne revealed that it’s been years since he’s actually attended his charitable giveaway.
“It’s actually been my first time back here for the past eight or nine years, and they’ve been doing this for 15 years,” said Wayne. “I haven’t been back here to do this for so long — just being super busy, just always on tour.”
Making his return to the giveaway alongside Birdman, Cash Money co-founder Ronald “Slim” Williams and other members of the Cash Money family, the 29-year-old emcee says that this time around he has a better understanding of the impact of such an event.
“Those times I did it years ago, I was just a kid and I was just doing it because Baby and Slim, we were giving away turkeys at a park and that’s what we were doin’,” Tunechi said. “Now it’s a totally different feeling, because I can actually give you that and say, ‘Here, happy Thanksgiving.’ I can do that … That’s a different feeling in general, and it’s a beautiful feeling overall.”
Though Wayne, Birdman and Slimall reside in Miami now (much to the chagrin of Uncle Luke), the moguls say that being able to give back to their old community is a blessing all its own.
“God blessed people to bless other people,” Slim said. “It makes it so special for us to come back home and see a smile on people’s face[s] after they received their turkeys and all the other items that go with it. So it’s real big and real special for us.”
Birdman shared a similar sentiment, adding that he hopes that he and his Cash Money family can be an inspiration to others in their community to achieve their dreams.
“Knowing we once were them, so for me to see that they see us, hopefully it’s an inspiration for them and something positive can come out of it, because we once were them,” said Birdman.
