What are some of the things that your father instilled in your and your brother, Robert Jr., as you worked under him?
One of the things that my father always told me and my brother is that “if you think that you know everything there is to know about this business, you are sadly mistaken.” You have to be willing to learn and think outside of the box sometimes and not just rest on the successes that you’ve had and look for new ways to move forward. There is not a day or month that goes by that I don’t learn something new about this business and about this industry. I think that’s the exciting party about this industry, especially from the automotive retail side. No two days are alike, which I like, so there are challenges that may come about and it’s about learning form them and trying to make your organization better. Me having an open mind. And also relying on our staff. I have some employees who have been in the business for longer than I’ve been alive. So I do appreciate their talents and their abilities in order to learn and engage and continue to move us forward.
