John H. Johnson, founder of the Johnson Publishing Company (publisher of Ebony and Jet magazines), was commemorated on the forever U.S. Postal stamp on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Dignitaries including Mayor Rahm Emanuel, former Mayor Richard M. Daley, Senator Danny K. Davis, Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., and community leaders and well-wishers packed the lobby of the Ebony-Jet building in a moving tribute to the man and his mission to uplift the image of African Americans.
“He was a man who was larger than life,” said Johnson Publishing Company CEO Desiree Rogers, “so now when you put that stamp on the letter, he’ll be all over the world.”
