Cheating men — the unlucky dogs that they are — are suffering massive heart attacks and dying in their lovers’ beds, according to a new study.

The University of Florence indicates that “sudden coital death” happens more often when the male is at his lover’s house or in a hotel. Conversely, his heart is safe when he’s in his own bed with his own wife. The infidelity act, especially in a strange environment, is associated with “a higher risk of major cardiovascular event,” including fatal heart attacks, researchers reported this week.

What gives? Perhaps Mother Nature has a wicked streak; or some men are unfit and trying desperately to keep up with a younger lover. Researchers also consider a man’s heavy conscience when he’s dipping on his wife or girlfriend, and that, too, may trigger sudden coital death.

Clogged arteries were blamed for more than a third of the sudden coital deaths — and the physical demands of sex were also indicated as a source of the fatty plaque build-up that caused arteries to rupture.

“Extramarital sex may be hazardous and stressful because the lover is often younger than the primary partner and probably sex occurs more often following excessive drinking and/or eating,” researcher Dr. Alessandra Fisher explained. “It is possible that a secret sexual encounter in an unfamiliar setting may significantly increase blood pressure and heart rate, leading to increased oxygen demand.”
