The rolling out team can’t be the only people excited to hear the beautiful songbird back in action. Tamia’s Beautiful Surprise would be the perfect traditional R&B album to groove to as we head into the fall season. There’s no doubt that Tamia can bring a tear to your eye with her strong yet soothing vocals, but the messages on Beautiful Surprise will resonate with any and every woman who has been in a relationship with a man.
Beautiful Surprise touches on love gained, cherished, lost, and everything in between. Tamia touches on an emotional space that has been ignored by many other young songstresses — genuine love. On “Give Me You,” Tamia sings about love without materialistic expectations, which carries into her single, “Beautiful Surprise.”
Though I greatly enjoyed the project as a whole, the party song, “Believe in Love” was one of the weakest songs on the album. As you listen further, prepare for the ballads to take over. If you are in the mood for something a little “different,” this might not be the album for you. If you are looking for R&B music that is familiar, a Tamia who has stayed true to her sound and message, a beautiful album that can play backdrop to any family oriented function, then look no further.
