10. The Dodgers Start Spending Like It’s Going Out Of Style
Who knew that Magic Johnson’s purchase of the Dodgers would turn them into baseball’s version of showtime? We certainly didn’t. But the real showtime has taken place in the front office as the team has made trades to add over a quarter of a billion dollars worth of payroll to an already expensive roster. With Hanley Ramizez, Shane Victorino, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett brought in to join the likes of Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers have transformed themselves into a major player in the playoff conversation virtually overnight. We’ll see if the moves actually translate into more wins. But in the meantime, it sure is fun to watch.
