In 1993, Mrs. O began a successful career in politics, the civic world and corporate America, rising as high as the vice president of community relations and external affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center in 2005. In 2007, Obama scaled back her responsibilities to support her husband’s successful quest to become president of the United States.
Today, both parents try to make their daughters’ lives as “normal” as possible with set times for study, bed, and getting up. “My first priority will always be to make sure that our girls are healthy and grounded,” Michelle said. “Then I want to help other families get the support they need, not just to survive, but to thrive.”
