Shonda Rhimes and Issa Rae Bringing Series to ABC

Issa Rae, the creative force behind the highly popular Web series “The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl”; and Shonda Rhimes, creater of the critically acclaimed “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” will work together on a half-hour comedy titled “I Hate L.A. Dudes.” Developed by Rae, who is writing and co-executive producing the project, the comedy has been sold to ABC.

Deadline describes the series this way; “‘I Hate L.A. Dudes’ centers on an aspiring journalist, new to Los Angeles, who becomes the lone female voice on a budding, male-driven Internet talk show, while learning to decode the often humiliating and exasperating rules of the LA dating scene.”

Since news of the two black female directors’ collaboration, both have been showered with praise. “Feels great to turn on my phone to all this love, support and encouragement,” said Rae Monday on Twitter. “Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for all the tweets!” No word yet on when if ever, Rae’s digital hit “Awkward Black Girl” will make its way to television screens. –danielle canada
