Stars: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Momoa, Christian Slater, Sung Kang
Fans of Sly Stallone won’t be disappointed in his latest cinematic offering. James Bonomo (Stallone) is a hired gun who becomes a target when in retaliation for his latest hit, the bad guys snatch his daughter. Meanwhile, a Washington, D.C., detective who’s lost his partner makes Bonomo an offer he can’t refuse; join forces to take down the gangsters. The action is nonstop, and that’s a good thing, because Stallone’s strangely frozen face (too much Botox, perhaps?) and nearly incoherent delivery of his lines are very distracting. The scene where he learns that his daughter has been kidnapped, well, let’s just say had he not pounded the steering wheel of his car, it would have been impossible to discern that he was upset. Fortunately, the other actors’ faces and performances are much more animated. –p.d. lee
