With So So Def Recordings celebrating its 20th anniversary in Atlanta on Feb. 23, it’s the perfect time to look back on the label’s legacy. Starting from 1993, the house that Jermaine Dupri built churned out hits across the spectrum of contemporary popular music; from smooth R&B, to hip-hop soul, to crunk, to pop-rap and bass music.
Dupri and his label hold a special place in the hearts and minds of anyone old enough to remember the 1990s and early 2000s, especially as stars like Kris Kross, Da Brat, Xscape, Jagged Edge and others helped define a generation.
