States with laws protecting the transgender community

Transgender Symbol

The LGBT rights activists, the LGBT community, especially the transgender community, are relishing a spike in national coverage and representation that it’s never known before. Although strides are  being made bring equality to the transgender community, many trans people across the country are living without laws to provide them their basic human rights or to protect them from violence and discrimination.

In fact, only about 45% of the nation’s population is protected under laws that ban discrimination on the basis of gender identity.

Hopefully, more state and federal laws will be passed to protect transgender people across the nation from violence and discrimination. Luckily, there are 17 states and jurisdictions that have already implemented transgender-inclusive nondiscrimination laws. Find out which states those are after the cut. – nicholas robinson
