You may want to reset your thinking if you think hula hooping is child’s play. Hoopnotica is the latest Hollywood weight-loss craze among celebs.

The toy many of us played with as children has hollywood worked up in a new workout frenzy. Obviously hula hooping is great for not only toning the core but also the abs, legs, arms, back and buttocks.

Kelly Osbourne did Hoopnotica to get ready for Oscar night losing and keeping off 70 pounds since starting her workouts in 2009.

“I have a Hoopnotica hula hoop,” she told one magazine. “I use it every day. It’s made my back and arms stronger, and my waist has gone down 2 inches! On Saturday nights my friends and I put on ridiculous outfits and hula-hoop and dance when everyone else is at ‘da club.’ We call it #HipHopAnonymous. Adam Lambert is in it. We all live in the same building and random people show up. The next morning you’re like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m so sore,’ but you had the best night ever.”

Founder of Hoopnotica, Gabriella Redding started the craze because it was one of her favorite fun and healthy things to do. After losing 50 pounds in a year thanks to exercise, she decided to share it with others. One of those people, Jackie Hesley. Jackie Hesley is a certified Hoopnotica instructor who teaches in the Hoopnotica studio in Venice, Califoria. She has also lost about 50 pounds but in six months.

“It is cardio and strength training because you’re using all of your core muscles,” Hesley told reporters. “You tighten up the sides of your body and you tighten up your center or your hips or your legs.”

“You can burn up to 600 calories in an hour, moving your arms in and out and coming up,” Redding said.

These “hooping” classes burn an average of 420 calories per hour, which is the equivalent half of a cardio-kickbox class.

Osbourne isn’t the only celebrity hooper.  See which other celebrities have joined the hula hoop craze to keep in shape.
