1. Millennials were not born during, nor were they the offspring of, those connected to the rabidly racist era of Jim Crowism (legal segregation) and de facto segregation in the North. Therefore they were not born during a time when blacks and other minorities were legally appointed second-class citizens. Although great disparities remain, there are no legal and institutional barriers that prevent upward mobility, and many have, and whites are more accustomed to seeing African Americans and other ethnicities in positions of influence and power.
