Ever since K. Michelle claimed last year that her former boyfriend, MeMpHiTz, abused her during their relationship, their rocky love affair has become as much a part of her identity as any of her ratchet moments, her revealing songs or her beautiful voice. Although she’s been mum about MeMpHiTz, as of late, – she’s been busy beefing with most of her “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta cast mates – K. Michelle recently brought up her abusive past at a recent concert and tearily claimed that MeMpHiTz was the worst man she ever had.
While performing at the Highline Ballroom in New York last week, K. Michelle lamented over the backlash she endured after claiming that her ex abused her.
“I had people send me hate, send me Tweets and do things to me, like I was the one who did it to myself. I think a lot of women and men don’t tell their story just because they don’t know what people are going to say,” K.Michelle told fans; revealing she has others issues to handle in the aftermath. “I still get angry and I think that’s the reason for a lot of the things that I do that I shouldn’t. But you can’t take the excuse. You just have to get better and move forward.”
But K. Michelle’s moment of candor wasn’t without it’s barbs. Right afterwards, she snag her own altered rendition of Beyoncé’s “Best Thing I Never Had” and dubbed MeMpHiTz the “Worst Man She Ever Had” and took shots at his marriage with Toya Wright.
“Heard you got married, damn shame for her/cause I’m glad you showed me who you really were/the picture you paint, you know you ain’t no saint/keep it real about everything, I know just who you are,” K.Michelle belted. “When I think of the times I had a fist to my eye, face so swollen that it hurt me to cry/thank God I didn’t die, thank you God for saving my life/I’m so over you, my momma prayed my way out.”
“You got karma you can’t run away.” K.Michelle added. “So sad you are an evil man without a heart/every dog has his day and every sinner ain’t no saint/you can’t stop what God has for me.”
Clearly, forgiveness for MeMpHiTz is something that she’s still working on. Nonetheless, her words about our culture’s “blame the victim” attitude about domestic violence were poignant and well needed.
