AT&T wants it users to enjoy outdoors this summer.
The telecommunication giant has added 25 stations throughout New York, that will allow users to juice up their phones, tablets and other devices while taking in some nature. Each of the solar stations will offer microUSB, iPhone 4, and iPhone 5 connections, as well as, USB ports for other devices. These stations can be used free of charge and can be used by all no matter who their service is with . So far, stations have been set up in Riverside Park in Manhattan, in Union Square, and in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Through the Street Charge project, AT&T charging stations are powered through solar panels which are stand-alone structures that have absolutely no external power supply or wires. The structures only require is sunlight. The project is said to have come about as the city went into recovery mode after Hurricane Sandy. As AT&T set up temporary stations for those who lost power, the idea to make permanent stations seemed like a great idea.
The towers are up on a trial basis until December. The decision to make them permanent or to squash the idea will then be made by AT&T officials.
