American-made cars that thrived as Detroit failed

The city of Detroit recently filed for bankruptcy protection after accumulating $18.5 billion in long-term debt. The city continues to struggle due to the declining population and eroding tax base. While the city has had trouble managing finances, the car industry has thrived since the bailouts in 2009.

Below are several cars that sold well as the city of Detroit failed.


Ford F-Series

The Ford F-Series was the best selling car in the month of June. Over 68,000 units were sold and the model has experienced a 22 percent increase since 2012.


Chevrolet Silverado

The Chevy Silverado sold 43,259 units in June. Thus far, Chevy has sold 242,586 units in 2013.

Chevrolet Cruze

The Chevy Cruze sold 32,871 unit in June. Sales have increased by 17.4 percent since 2012.

Dodge Ram

The Ram pickup sold 38,644 units in June. In 2013, 170,319 units have been sold.

Ford Escape

The Ford Escape sold 28,694 units in June. Sales of the Ford Escape increased by 23.2 percent.
