What started as a disagreement on Facebook ended in murder. In February 2011, Kayla Henriques, now 20, borrowed $20 from her boyfriend’s sister, Kamisha Richards, 22, to buy diapers and milk for her then 1-year-old son, Alex. Henriques allegedly spent the money on something else. An angered Richards demanded her money back on Facebook and the verbal attacks ensued. They argued at Henrique’s grandmother’s house in East New York. Richards believed that it was a ‘con’ on Henriques’ part, so she poured out baby Alex’s milk, while she demanded the loan repaid immediately.
Henriques wrote in her confession, “She was close to scissors and grabbed it. I ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife. She swung and I swung. Then Kamisha kept yelling ‘This b**** stabbed me.'”
Richards, an aspiring lawyer who’d recently graduated John Jay College of Criminal Justice graduate, was bleeding when she was found by a family friend.
Expressing her regrets on Facebook, Henriques wrote: “I can’t be leave this happen I’m sorry I send my condolences to her family. RIP Kamisha.”
Henriques will be sentenced on August 21. She plead guilty to manslaughter and only 15 years in prison with the potential of 25 years to life if she had been convicted of murder.
