The September 2013 issue of “Ebony” magazine, as it hits stands today, may very well ruffle some feathers. The social media campaign #justicefortrayvon, which was started during the heartbreaking Zimmerman Trial, is still going strong and shows no signs of slowing down.
From nationwide protests to President Obama himself addressing the verdict, to the following cover campaign, supporters of the movement continue to come together in remembrance of 16-year-old Trayvon Martin. And rightly so.
Ebony magazine will feature four distinct covers, starring actor Boris Kodjoe, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, Director Spike Lee and their sons. The final cover will showcase the Martin family themselves, which is by far the most striking cover of the bunch.
Inside the pages, readers can find an exclusive interview with Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin and a piece that explores the “Stand your Ground” law as well as a take on racial profiling from Columbia University Professor Marc Lamont Hill. Spike Lee, Boris Kodjoe and Dwyane Wade also provide a few touching words on how they talk to their sons about racism in America.
