Ex-NFL Player Charged with Conspiring to Steal More Than $690,000

Former NFL player Irving Fryar, 51, and his mother Allene McGhee, 72, were indicted by a New Jersey grand jury Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 on charges they conspired to steal more than $690,000 through a “sophisticated mortgage fraud scam” and theft by deception. The pair allegedly submitted false income information to obtain five loans on McGhee’s home within a six-day period.

Fryar, a pastor and head coach of the Robbinsville High School football team, is a former NFL wide receiver, having spent nine seasons with the New England Patriots, three with the Miami Dolphins, three with the Philadelphia Eagles, and two with the Washington Redskins. He also founded the Burlington County College of Theology and is the pastor and founder of New Jerusalem House of God in Mt. Holly, NJ.

According to reports, his mother reported income of $3,000 per month working as an event coordinator at her son’s church. It’s alleged that more than $200,000 of the loans have been spent – the bank has since written off the loans as losses.
