These days when you break up with a lover, you’ll likely have to go into hiding or witness protection. Talk about fatal attraction: kidnapped and held hostage by her ex-boyfriend and baby’s father, Bethany Arceneaux, 29, of Duson, La., a town in Acadia and Lafayette parishes, is glad to be alive today.
Arceneaux was rescued from an abandoned home by relatives on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. She was held captive by Scott Thomas, who is now dead. Arceneaux knew her life was in danger. Their relationship has a history of violence, including Thomas threatening Arceneaux with a knife, choking her, dragging her by her hair and previously holding Arceneaux and her son hostage. It’s why she was granted a protective order on June 17, 2013. Thomas violated the order and was arrested on Aug. 8 and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated flight from an officer.
This past week, she was abducted from a day care parking lot by Thomas who forced her to get in the car with him and left their 2-year-old son abandoned, alone and sitting in her car unsupervised.
Arceneaux’s family was vigilant in finding her alive. They kicked down the doors of the house where he held her. She suffered from multiple stab wounds, but is in stable condition. Thomas was found by the SWAT team, dead from injuries sustained during the confrontation from the family members who rescued her, which included brothers and an uncle. No charges made against family yet as Sheriff’s office says they acted in defense of Arceneaux.
