Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for intentionally dropping a cup of soda on the floor in order to manipulate the clock in Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

At the end of the Wednesday night game between the Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers, Kidd’s team was railing near the end of regulation. Out of timeouts, Kidd was desperate and wanted time for his assistant coach to draw up one last play. TV camera replays caught Kidd telling Nets guard Tyshawn Taylor to “hit me” with 8.3 seconds left at the Barclays Center. Taylor immediately walked into Kidd who spilled a beverage, forcing the officials to take time to clean up the court while Nets assistant coach John Welch drew up an offensive play in a quick huddle.

Kidd, of course,  denied the spill was intentional after the game, but the NBA wasn’t buying it and slapped him with the hefty fine.

Kidd’s shenanigans didn’t help the Nets, as they still lost the game against the Lakers 99-94 to fall to 4-11.
